Dental X-Rays

What are Dental X-Rays?

Dental x-rays are important diagnostic tools that we use to help create personalized treatment plans. Oftentimes, an x-ray will show us things that would otherwise go unnoticed with a typical examination. This is why we recommend having x-rays taken at the majority of your appointments. These x-rays are helpful in allowing us to find issues and monitor the growth and development of your teeth.

Why are Dental X-Rays needed?

You will more than likely have x-rays taken at most of your dental appointments. X-rays allow us to find cavities, bone loss and other issues so that treatment is quick and effective. Because x-rays use a minimal amount of radiation, you can feel safe having them done.

What Can Dental X Rays Find
When Having Dental X Rays Taken

What can Dental X-Rays find?

X-rays can be taken before, during, and after procedures as part of your dental treatment plan. They can help us to find things that would go unnoticed with a typical examination. Some of the things that they can find include:

  • Cavities
  • Bone loss
  • Gum disease
  • Impacted teeth
  • Problematic restorations
  • Infections and abscesses

What can you expect when having Dental X-Rays taken?

We will drape a lead apron over your body to protect you from bouncing radiation. An x-ray device is then placed in the mouth in the area where the x-ray needs to be taken. The machine itself is aimed directly at this device and the x-ray is taken. Once the x-ray is taken, we move onto another area of the mouth and repeat this process until all necessary images have been taken. The procedure is quick and easy, and you can expect to have x-rays taken at the majority of your appointments. In fact, we recommend having a new set of x-rays taken every few years to monitor any changes.

If you are in need of new dental x-rays and want to come in for an appointment, call us today and we will be happy to assist you.
